THE PIRATES – Band Of Misfits

With Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, Martin Freeman, Lenny Henry, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Ashley Jensen

Written by Gideon Defoe (based on his book “The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists”)

Directed by Peter Lord & Jeff Newitt

Aardman, the people behind the legendary Wallace & Grommit stop animation series and Chicken Run apply their meticulous craft to a funny, oddball pirate tale. The far-from-competent Pirate Captain and his bizarre crew set their sights on him winning the annual Pirate Of The Year contest, but the competition is tough (including the infamous Black Bellamy).
But when the gang crosses paths with a blood thirsty anti-pirate queen, and the evolution scientist Darwin (who realizes that the Pirate Captain's parrot Polly, is in fact the last living Dodo), the perspective shifts. The ensuing adventure leads to a whole lot of mischief and madness.

Special features take a look at the creation of the bath chase sequence, how the stop animation process works, plus a flash card challenge with Darwin's chimp Mr. Bobo.

PS. Without trying to spoil everyone's fun, I guess people sometimes forget the pirate modus operandi of indiscriminate pillaging, rape and murder, since the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies made the profession seem like a jolly lark...
